One rugged phone and one rugged tablet have surfaced on French retailer AMG Pro, which focuses on selling tactical equipment. They come from Crosscall – another French company.
The Crosscall Core X7 is a rugged handset that can survive submersion up to 2m of water for 30 minutes (IPX8 rating) – and this includes salt water, which most IP rated phones avoid. The phone is also dust tight (IP6X) and resists hot water jets (IP69K).
It has been drop tested 300 times from 1.2m (following the MIL-STD-810H standard) and the manufacturer claims that it can actually survive falling from 2m onto concrete. It also has a wide range of operating temperatures, going from -25°C to 60°C. Crosscall has enough faith in its rugged design that the Core X7 is sold with a 5-year warranty (which also covers the battery).
The X7 is a fairly chunky device, measuring 171 x 79.5 x 13.5mm and weighing 280g.
Not much is known about the phone besides that, however. It has 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage, but there’s not even a mention of what chipset is inside. Nothing on the display or cameras either.
The same goes for the Crosscall Core T7 tablet – it has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. We do know that the tablet supports X-SPACE, which is Crosscall’s desktop environment.
Anyway, the tablet is just as tough as the phone – complete with IP68 (2m of salt water for 30 minutes), water jets (IP69K) and has been drop-tested according to the MIL-STD-810H (falling from 1.2m onto concrete). It can survive temperatures ranging from -25°C to 60°C and comes with a 5-year warranty.
The Core T7 tablet measures 261 x 167.9 x 13 mm and weighs 800g.
The circle you see on the back of the phone and on the tablet is interesting – this is used for Crosscall’s X-CABLE, which attaches magnetically and sends both power and data (though it’s only USB 2.0). The circular design of the connector means the angle doesn’t matter.
