The recently leaked Pixel Tag is real, and it’s now official. Google says it’s a “finder tag”, and like Apple’s AirTag and Samsung’s Galaxy Tag, it’s meant to help you keep track of your belongings.
The Pixel Tag uses Google’s Find Hub network for tracking. It’s made out of stainless steel designed to resist flexing and cracking, and it’s IP67-rated for water and dust resistance. It supports Bluetooth with Bluetooth Channel Sounding, and UWB.
It has a built-in speaker that can play a sound to help you find your Pixel Tag, and it also has a button which you can press to make your phone ring so you can find it. Google says the Pixel Tag has a battery life of up to a year, and you can replace the battery yourself.
To set up a Pixel Tag, you just need to pull the battery tab and bring it close to your Android device (running Android 9 or newer). It seamlessly pairs via Google’s Fast Pair. You can share a Pixel Tag with up to 10 people to easily find shared items together. You can also enable Left Behind alerts to help prevent leaving your items behind.
As a safety feature, your phone will automatically alert you when an unknown Pixel Tag is traveling with you, and it will also tell you how to ring the tag to find it and give you tips on what to do next.
The Pixel Tag is available for $29, or you can get a four-pack for $99. It will become available for purchase from the Google Store on November 11.
