Round, square or visor – those are the usual shapes when we’re talking about smartphone camera islands, but Realme has its eyes set on bringing a more personalized look. Realme GT8 Pro is the brand’s first smartphone with an interchangeable camera housing, which allows you to completely change your phone’s look in a few simple steps.
Realme GT8 Pro’s camera islands
The GT8 Pro’s camera deco features two Torx screws on the side, which hold the module in place. The system appears to use magnets, allowing you to instantly snap the housing into place and then attach the two screws to secure it. Realme revealed it will offer all sorts of designs, including square, round, and robot styles, which will be available from the brand’s official stores.
But Realme is also giving users a chance at 3D printing their own camera island designs, as it shared the 3mf model file and is holding a competition for the most creative designs in collaboration with MakerWorld.
GT8 Pro is not only focusing on the looks, as it brings a capable triple camera setup headlined by a Ricoh-tuned main camera, which marks the official start of the Realme x Ricoh collaboration.
GT8 Pro’s 50MP main camera brings a 1/1.56-inch sensor and f/1.8 aperture. GT8 Pro is also compatible with Ricoh GR’s full-frame equivalent focal lengths of 28mm and 40mm. You also get access to five of Ricoh GR’s iconic photography tones – Positive, Negative, High-contrast Black & White, Standard, and Monochrome.
The main shooter is backed by a 65mm equivalent 200MP periscope with 3x optical zoom and up to 12x lossless zoom. It uses a 1/1.56” sensor (ISOCELL HP5) with an f/2.6 aperture and features dual-axis OIS stabilization.
The third shooter on the back is a 16mm equivalent 50MP ultrawide lens with an f/2.0 aperture and 116-degree FOV. Video recording tops out at 8K resolution and 30 fps.
The rest of the spec sheet is equally impressive. You get the flagship Snapdragon Elite Gen 5 Extreme Edition chipset paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB UFS 4.1 storage. Realme is also bringing its custom R1 graphics chip.
GT8 Pro gets a flagship AMOLED with QHD+ resolution (3,136×1,440px) and a 144Hz refresh rate. Brightness is rated at up to 2,000 nits in typical conditions, and it can boost up to a crazy 4,000 nits in local peak areas. You also get a 32MP selfie cam and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.
Elsewhere, GT8 Pro brings a 7,000mAh combined battery capacity split between two Si/C cells. Wired charging tops out at 120W while wireless top-ups max out at 50W speeds. Despite the larger cell, GT8 Pro is 8.2mm thick compared to 8.55mm on the GT7 Pro.
The new phone also features IP66, IP68, IP69 ingress protection and boots Android 16-based Realme UI 7 out of the box.
