Walt Disney World has announced the opening date for Soarin’ Across America at EPCOT and shared new behind-the-scenes looks at filming. They’ve also revealed the closing date for Soarin’ Around the World. This shares the dates & details, and everything else we know about the new limited-time version coming to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States.
Soarin’ Across America is just one part of a new campaign called “Disney Celebrates America,” which continues through the July 4th weekend in Summer 2026. According to the company, this celebration will bring together Disney’s beloved brands to honor America’s past, celebrate the present, and inspire its future. Otherwise, little is still known, and it’s unclear what “Disney Celebrates America” will entail beyond Soarin’ Across America.
The other big thing Walt Disney World has announced that the fan-fireworks show “Disney’s Celebrate America! — A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky,” will play across all three nights of the holiday weekend, July 3-5, 2026 at Magic Kingdom. No word yet on whether the “Heartbeat of Freedom” fireworks tag at EPCOT gets similar treatment. We’re also expecting America250 merchandise and perhaps patriotic character costumes. Probably not a ton beyond that, though. Fireworks and Soarin’ Across America will be the highlights.
We do know that the fan-favorite attraction Soarin’ will be receiving an all-new airborne adventure as part of the US Semiquincentennial. The new bi-coastal offering will showcase the United States—from sea to shining sea—highlighting some of the country’s natural beauty and iconic cityscapes.
Soarin’ Across America will be brought to life with the iconic elements that make Soarin’ unforgettable – the flight, the sights and score, even the scents. Walt Disney Imagineering is hard at work capturing more than a dozen breathtaking locations for the new flight.
The limited-time attraction aims to honors the heart and spirit of the nation as it soars into its 250th birthday celebration.
Here’s the latest announcement, as part of the Summer 2026 kickoff that released new dates, deals, and details:
“Soarin’ to tower, we’re ready for takeoff.” In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, Soarin’ Across America flies into EPCOT with a brand-new voyage beginning May 26. The new offering will highlight some of the country’s natural beauty – like the Grand Canyon – as well as iconic cityscapes, accompanied by a new orchestration of the classic Soarin’ musical theme.
There you have it. Soarin’ Across America opens on May 26, 2026 at EPCOT. If this sounds somewhat familiar or you think you’ve heard that before, you’re not exactly wrong…

Previously, Walt Disney World announced the opening deadline for its version of the distinctly patriotic ride overlay. As part of the calendar of events, Disney teased that guests should get ready for takeoff when Soarin’ Across America opens by Memorial Day 2026 at Walt Disney World!
“By” Memorial Day 2026 meant Soarin’ Across America could open on or before May 25, 2026. It’s often the case that new attractions opening for Memorial Day weekend actually debut on the Thursday or Friday beforehand, which is why we assumed the “by Memorial Day” verbiage was used.
As it turns out, Soarin’ Across America will have its official opening one day after Memorial Day. That’s a tad disappointing, but the silver lining is that Soarin’ Across America is still opening over a full month earlier at Walt Disney World than Disneyland. (Soarin’ Across America will debut on July 2, 2026 in Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort.)
Along with this, Walt Disney World shared a behind-the-scenes look at crews filming the Grand Canyon for the attraction:

Honestly, I’m still not entirely convinced that Soarin’ Across America is opening on May 26, 2026.
In case you haven’t been following along with the news, Cool Kids’ Summer is returning to Walt Disney World on May 26, 2026 and running through September 8, 2026. There’s a lot of stuff debuting on that date for the seasonal event, which Walt Disney World is clearly trying to make as splashy as possible of a summer kickoff in the absence of any all-new attractions.
Technically, Soarin’ Across America is not part of Cool Kids’ Summer, it’s part of Disney Celebrates America, which is a separate campaign (as noted above). Soarin’ Across America’s opening has nevertheless been lumped in with Cool Kids’ Summer, which isn’t a huge surprise.

To the contrary, the only other big thing opening around that time but on a different day is Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run – A New Mission. That debuts on May 22, 2026 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and it features the Mandalorian and his youngling Baby Yoda as they track down ex-Imperial officers throughout the galaxy. The reason that debuts on that date is because that’s when the new Mandalorian movie is being released. So the circumstances are different there!
My expectation is nevertheless that Soarin’ Across America debuts on or around May 22, 2026 as a ‘surprise and delight’ treat for guests visiting over Memorial Day weekend. Obviously, that’s not official, but it just strikes me as the type of thing Walt Disney World would do.
If that ends up being accurate, I would actually expect this ‘surprise and delight’ treat to be officially announced as opposed to being a soft opening. (An affiliation preview for Annual Passholders or Disney Vacation Club members is also possible, but this seems like something that would be open to everyone.) This is purely speculative on my part, but it’s the type of ‘distinctly patriotic’ decision that Disney would make sense ahead of Memorial Day. We shall see!

As for when Soarin’ Around the World will close, Walt Disney World has now announced that the final day to experience Soarin’ Around the World will be May 13, 2026, with Soarin’ closed starting May 14, 2026. (This was announced shortly after publication–edits are being made accordingly in the paragraphs that follow.)
Note that the attraction does not necessarily need a lengthy closure for the changeover. There was no downtime for the transition between Soarin’ Around the World and Soarin’ Over California back during Disney100. Same goes for the overlay when it returns during the DCA Food & Wine Festival at Disneyland.
Swapping the films can be an overnight process, with one version being shown one day and another the next. The longer timeframe between Soarin’ Around the World closing and Soarin’ Across America opening suggests the attraction will get its first proper refurbishment in a decade. It is overdue.

Back when Soarin’ Around the World first opened at EPCOT, there were a couple of closures in 2016 to prepare for the new attraction. When the opening actually did occur, the OG Soarin’ simply closed early one day and Soarin’ Around the World debuted the next day.
With that said, we are pleased that there’s going to be time for a brief refurbishment of Soarin’ in mid May 2026. The ride could use some TLC. The projectors could stand to be upgraded and/or cleaned, the queue repainted and refreshed, etc. It doesn’t need to be a lengthy closure–week or so during the shoulder season would suffice!
This reinforces our commentary about about a soft opening or ‘surprise & delight’ early debut of Soarin’ Across America leading into Memorial Day weekend. One week is plenty of time for the above, meaning Soarin’ Across America could easily soft launch by Friday, May 22, 2026.

At the other end of the spectrum, we’ve heard questions from readers about when Soarin’ Across America will end.
Fair warning: I have far less confidence in making a prediction here than with the soft opening above, because there’s a wide range of outcomes. My gut is that it all comes down to how well-received Soarin’ Across America is by guests, and that largely hinges on its quality.
If Soarin’ Across America is great and well-received, I could see its limited-run being extended ‘by popular guest demand’ and it continuing indefinitely. With multiple theaters at their disposal, maybe Walt Disney World finally takes a crack at showing multiple versions of Soarin’ simultaneously, or uses a Disney Vault approach to drive guest interest, a la DCA.
The minimum is something similar to the return of Soarin’ Over California back during Disney100 at EPCOT a couple years ago. The OG Soarin’ debuted on September 22, 2023 with the start of that celebration, and was grounded on February 27, 2024.

If we adjust that for Soarin’ Across America, it’s realistic to expect this limited-time version to stick around until at least January 4, 2027. My gut says that is the absolute minimum duration for this version, especially since it’s brand-new, whereas OG Soarin’ was a returning film.
I’d put the baseline at roughly a full year, giving guests until Memorial Day 2027 or perhaps even Independence Day 2027 to experience Soarin’ Across America. Unless guest satisfaction scores are anemic (and they won’t be–Soarin’ has a minimum floor by virtue of guests loving the ride system), Disney isn’t spending a ton of money on filming this for it to be shown for less than a year.
Disneyland is a potentially different story because of their greater willingness to cycle through films. But in that case, Soarin’ Across America isn’t retired, it’s temporarily grounded and added to their seasonal rotation. My hope is that Walt Disney World adopts that kind of approach, again assuming that Soarin’ Across America is well-done.

As we’ve discussed previously, there are also the bigger picture implications for EPCOT. We’ve been discussing EPCOT’s menu of (potential) ride reimaginings and enhancements for a while, and why it’s unlikely that multiple major attractions would go under the knife at the same time.
Along with that, one of the things we’ve discussed at length is how the 2026 Walt Disney World Ride Refurbishment & Closure Calendar is like pieces of a puzzle. That in order to accommodate the lengthier ride reimaginings that are likely on the horizon, other attractions will likely close for briefer ones first.
A lot of these pieces have already been ‘arranged’ with the Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure enhancements now completed. With those off the table, there are two big ones that we have our eyes on.

Those are Journey into Imagination and Spaceship Earth. Although I would love for Figment to finally get his due with an announcement at the Annual Shareholders meeting next week, I’m more inclined to believe the best-case scenario for that is a reveal at the 2026 D23 Expo in August and project start date deeper into 2027.
Spaceship Earth is likely to be before that. When previously discussed the Spaceship Earth Ride Refurbishment that was undertaken late last year, we speculated that it could be laying the groundwork for a lengthy reimagining, while also accomplishing duct tape repairs before other projects are knocked out in 2026. And then, it could be Spaceship Earth’s turn for a year-long closure.
This might also explain why Soarin’ Across America has an opening date at Disneyland but not at Walt Disney World. It’s entirely possible that EPCOT actually wants the new version online earlier, so that it can pick up some slack when another headliner goes down over the summer. Once again, this is purely speculative on my part.

As for Soarin’ Across America, we absolutely love everything about it. We don’t want to rehash what we’ve already written about this ‘Distinctly Patriotic’ ride overlay, but we cannot wait to take this flight and are really pleased to see Disney celebrating America.
Longtime readers know that one of my great passions outside of theme parks is the U.S. National Parks. There was a time when I was visiting Yosemite National Park multiple times per month, and I already have a ton of stamps in my U.S. National Parks passport (see My Top 10 U.S. National Parks So Far.)
The whole reason we started TravelCaffeine.com, our non-Disney sister site to this one, was to document international travel and trips to U.S. National Parks. Okay, let’s review: version of Soarin’ that celebrates America, officially opens on May 26, 2026 at Walt Disney World, offers less distortion and more natural beauty, hopefully no CGI, helps unite Americans instead of divide us…anything else? Oh yeah, have a nice flight!
