Ever joined a WhatsApp group only to realise you’ve missed all the earlier messages? WhatsApp has now introduced a new Group Message History feature designed to put an end to that fear of missing out.
The new feature allows group admins and members to share recent messages with newly added participants. WhatsApp says the shared message history will remain end-to-end encrypted.
When adding new members to a group chat, a pop-up will appear with an option to share recent message history. Admins or members can choose to share between 25 and 100 recent messages with the new participants.
Notably, admins can still disable the message history sharing option in group settings. When recent messages are shared, all group members will be notified, and WhatsApp will include details such as sender information and timestamps.
WhatsApp has confirmed that the Group Message History feature is being rolled out gradually.
